On Prescription Pads

Prescription Privileges

Medication Icon

New residents will be granted prescribing privileges upon entry to their program through CPSBC, but will not automatically be sent prescription pads. Residents can order prescription pads through their online CPSBC account or through the form available on the CPSBC website at any time once they have started training and have an active license. Prescription pad requests will only be processed once residents have an active license and will be delivered approximately 7-10 business days from processing date.

Please note that CPSBC will only accept business addresses via the online CPSBC account for the prescription pad request to be processed. Private residential addresses should not be used. Please use a hospital or clinic address.

For more information see the Prescription Privileges page on our website.

Writing Prescriptions

Residents should use their CPSID # when making prescriptions. Residents shouldn’t share personal information when prescribing, consider using a phone number for a ward or clinical location where pharmacy can contact you if necessary.

Preceptors do not need to co-sign on prescriptions.

Writing prescriptions for family members is not permitted.

Enrollment in the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) is mandatory for BC residents, and necessary when giving referrals for tests, diagnostics, lab work etc.  You can find your MSP number on your BC Services card. If you are not yet enrolled in MSP learn more about signing up.
