Resident Counselling & Peer Support Office
The Resident Counselling & Peer Support Office (RCAPS) is part of Postgraduate Medical Education at UBC and offers support to residents through a variety of avenues during their residency journey. They offer individual and couples counselling, group and peer support, indigenous counselling support, health & wellness workshops, and referrals to external resources. All residents are encouraged to access their free and confidential supports and should see their website for more information.
Physician Health Program
Residents also have access to the Physician Health Program (PHP). PHP do not charge for any counselling, support, advisory, advocacy and referral services that they provide to resident doctors and their eligible dependents. Residents are free to contact either RCAPS or PHP for counselling supports. Both PHP & RCAPS work closely together and will refer to one another if capacity limits are reached.
PHP can provide assistance in finding a family physician.
Other Supports
In addition to PHP and RCAPS you may also seek support via your health authority Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) or Employee Wellness program. As per the Resident Collective Agreement (Article 15.04) residents have support available to see a registered clinical counsellor, psychologist or social worker via the resident extended health plan.
The BC College of Family Physicians also have the following resource to help individuals find a Family Physician.
