In addition to regular salary, residents are paid for other items. The following is a quick summary of additional payments and how they are processed.
Call Stipends
In order to receive payment for call shifts, residents must submit a Call Stipend form. Call stipend amounts are stipulated in the Resident Collective Agreement and are processed by Resident Doctors of BC (RDBC). Call stipend payments are added to your regular paycheque. See https://residentdoctorsbc.ca/contract-and-benefits/submitting-a-call
Statutory Holiday Pay
Residents who work on statutory holidays are compensated per the amounts in the Resident Collective Agreement. Residents submit stat holiday pay requests through Resident Management System (RMS). Submissions are approved by the Program Administrators and submitted to VCH for pay via resident paycheques. See https://postgrad.med.ubc.ca/current-trainees/resident-management-system-rms/
Mandatory Training Expense Reimbursements
Residents are reimbursed for a number of training expenses including travel for mandatory distributed rotations, mandatory courses, and mandatory academic events. Residents submit these reimbursement requests via the Resident Reimbursement System and they are approved by your program and PGME before being reimbursed by PHSA. See https://postgrad.med.ubc.ca/current-trainees/resident-reimbursements/
