From a central UBC Enrolment Services perspective, UBC medical residents are considered UBC students and will be registered as students in UBC’s student information system called Workday.
Set up Direct Deposit
All new residents will need to set up their direct deposit information in Workday to be reimbursed for any expenses through UBC. Residents will be able to access Workday once they have received communication from UBC Enrolment Services and have set up their CWL accounts.
Pay UBC Registration Fee
Medical residents are required to be registered with the University of British Columbia for the duration of their training. The annual fee is set by the University Board of Governors and is a registration fee as opposed to a tuition or course fee. The fee for the 2025-2026 academic year is $493.31.
New residents will be contacted directly by UBC Enrolment Services with instructions for payment. UBC registration fees can be paid through Workday and the 2025-2026 fees will be due July 9, 2025.
The UBC registration fee covers access to UBC student systems, software and resources including CWL, email, Microsoft 365 Office, UBC Library access, and more.
Residents do not meet the eligibility requirements for a U-Pass.
UBC Library Card
All residents have UBC Student access to the UBC Library using your UBC CWL login.
The UBCcard acts as a library card. Residents who have completed the UBC registration process and have obtained their UBC MRES (student) number can contact the UBCcard Office to obtain a UBC Student Card if they wish to do so.
