Affordable Housing Resources

There are a variety of discounts and corporate rates available on housing for medical learners. Whether you’re looking for short term or long term accommodations you can find some resources below:

  1. As employees of the BC Health Authorities, residents are eligible for government rates for hotels and should always ensure that they ask for a government rate if available. Here is a list of hotels that offer a government rate.
  2. UBC offers affordable housing for anyone visiting Vancouver. Visit Stay at UBC and TRIUMF House to find the short-term accommodation.
  3. MedsHousing offers a list of the short-term and long-term that are available at affordable rate to healthcare professionals.
  4. UBC Discount is available for all Best Western hotel locations. They have a few locations that are in Downtown Vancouver and one location near Oak and Marine Drive. Visit the Best Western Hotel website for details.
  5. Chain wide discounts are also available for UBC when booking directly on the following vendor sites. Discounts range between 10-20% off best available daily/flexible rates.

As a reminder, resident Collective Agreement does not provide reimbursement or PGME accommodation for residents’ primary accommodation. In order to be eligible for reimbursement or PGME leased accommodations, residents may be required to provide proof that the accommodation is a secondary residence and that they are maintaining a primary accommodation at their home program location. Insurance

In accordance with PGME policy, residents are responsible for any and all damages to accommodations beyond normal wear and tear, including but not limited to the replacement or repair of furnishings and appliances, as well as any additional cleaning costs incurred. Residents are strongly encouraged to obtain renters insurance or extend their home insurance coverage to this secondary residence for the duration of their stay in PGME housing.
