Many residents that have gone on medical leave have described it as being a very stressful and isolating experience and have wanted a way to connect with other residents going through the same thing.
The Resident Wellness Office has created a 4 week support group that meets once a week in a safe and confidential environment. Learn healthy coping skills with a Registered Clinical Counsellor using the evidence based approach of Mindful Self-Compassion.

The support group is for residents currently on medical or maternity/ parental leave from their program. The group will be facilitated remotely via Zoom to all residents across the province.

The support group is a 4-week program, with each week focusing on the development and practice of skills on a different topic relating to Mindful Self-Compassion. Residents are expected to attend all 4 weeks of the program.
The support group takes place quarterly on Tuesdays from 12:30-2:30pm via Zoom. The start dates for each 4 week session for the 2021/2022 Academic Year is outlined below:
Block 4: Tuesday September 28th 2021
Block 6: Tuesday November 23th 2021
Block 8 Tuesday January 18th 2022
Block 10 Tuesday March 15th 2022

Yes, the support group is confidential. All participants are required to agree to the respect and confidentiality of other participants in the group before the start of the program. Counsellor facilitators adhere to the same standards of confidentiality in their professional practice as when conducting other counselling appointments.
