We are excited to announce that the UBC Resident Wellness Office has changed its name to the Resident Counselling and Peer Support Office (RCAPS Office). After a decade of supporting various aspects of Resident wellbeing, we have reflected on our mission and purpose. This name change aims to reflect our commitment to addressing the broader systemic factors affecting resident and physician wellness, recognizing that wellbeing is influenced by program culture, psychologically safe learning environments, call schedules, and other external factors. By moving away from the individual-focused ‘wellness’ terminology, we aim to highlight the shared responsibility within Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME), UBC, the Health Authorities and the hospitals to foster a supportive environment. We feel our new identity as the Resident Counselling and Peer Support Office better represents the comprehensive services we offer, emphasizing both Counselling and Peer Support for the Residents we serve.
