UBC residency training leads to certification by either the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
Core Competencies
The Core Competencies required for Residents in Postgraduate Medical Education document forms the basis of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to achieve the medical education program objectives, and in conjunction with the academic standards, are requirements for admission to the program. These entrance core competencies support the retention, promotion and graduation of medical students.

Training Duration
The duration of training varies from two years for Family Medicine to four to seven years for other specialties and sub-specialties.
Applications
Applications for entry-level postgraduate positions in all primary certification programs, as well as applications for R3 CFPC Emergency Medicine programs, R4 Subspecialty Medicine and Adult Critical Care programs, and Subspecialty Pediatric programs at UBC are made through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS).
