NEW: Clinical & AFC Fellows Counselling available through the RCAPS Office

June 25, 2025

We are pleased to announce that Clinical and AFC fellows can now access counselling sessions with Fellows Counsellor, Ayumi Samarakoon, through the Resident Counselling & Peer Support Office.

Ayumi Samarakoon (she/her) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master’s in Education in Clinical Counselling and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Ayumi has been in the mental health field for five years, guiding individuals through their most challenging moments with compassion, precision, and purpose. Grounded in evidence-based modalities—primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)—she weaves in mindfulness practices to support lasting transformation. Her work is deeply rooted in trauma-informed and culturally responsive care, ensuring that each client feels seen, heard, and empowered. With an unwavering commitment to creating safe, client-centered spaces, Ayumi helps individuals break through patterns, confront pain with courage, and reconnect with their inner strength.

Ayumi will be available for individual counselling on Monday – Friday, in-person at the Gordon & Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre (DHCC), or remotely via Zoom or telephone.

Clinical and AFC Fellows are eligible for up to 10 counselling sessions per academic year. To book an appointment, please complete our intake form here: RCAPS Counselling Intake Form

We warmly encourage you to take advantage of this resource, whether you’re navigating personal challenges, professional stress, or simply looking for someone to talk to!

For any questions around this offering or eligibility, feel free to contact us at pgme.rcaps@ubc.ca.
