Online Training Courses

Prior to starting residency, all residents are required to complete the following three online courses:

Infection Control Basics

All residents must complete the Infection Prevention and Control Practices for Direct/Professional Clinical Care Providers course prior to their program start date.

To complete this online course, sign in as an Affiliate Physician to the Learning Hub.  If you experience any difficulty with the website, please email learnwithus@vch.ca.

Once you have completed the Infection Prevention and Control Practices for Direct/Professional Clinical Care Providers course, forward a copy of your results to your program director’s office for their records.

Information Privacy and Confidentiality

Information Privacy and Confidentiality Learning Module

All residents must complete the Information Privacy Module for UBC Medical Residents prior to their program start date.

To complete the short learning module, visit the Learning Hub website.

If you experience any difficulty with the Learning Hub website, please email learnwithus@vch.ca.

Once you have completed the learning module, forward a copy of your results to your program director’s office for their records.

Student Practice Education Core Orientation (SPECO)

All residents must complete the Student Practice Education Core Orientation (SPECO) prior to their program start date.

SPECO and other student orientation materials can be referenced with the SPECO Checklist.  Residents are required to register for accounts on the LearningHub (if they don’t already have one).

Once you have completed the orientation, forward a copy of your results to your program director’s office for their records.

Health Authorities of B.C. Training Requirements

Before gaining access to electronic health systems used in clinical settings across the province, health authorities in B.C. require all trainees complete online training. It is the responsibility of the trainee to ensure they complete all necessary training requirements in a timely manner to avoid delayed access to health authority systems. Trainees only need to complete the training requirements for the Health Authorities they are placed in.

The health authorities of B.C. will communicate with trainees by email. It is imperative you check your email regularly for instructions and updates in preparation for your time spent training in each of the health authorities.

Fraser Health Authority (FHA)

Interior Health Authority (IHA)

There are no training requirements for Interior Health.

Northern Health Authority (NHA)

No specific requirements.

Providence Health Care (PHC)

Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA)

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)

Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA)

All Island Health training requirements are organized by the UBC Regional Office. If you are a new UBC resident, UBC visiting elective resident or out of province visiting elective, you will be contacted by this office.
